Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, declared that Ethiopia will not be allowed to establish a naval base in Somalia.
His recent statement, which he delivered while addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday, highlights Somalia’s strong opposition to Ethiopia’s actions.
The minister claims that Ethiopia has masked its actions and intentions as counterterrorism efforts.
According to Fiqi, Ethiopia is attempting to annex parts of Somalia under the guise of fighting terrorism, which he believes is a cover for occupation.
He also emphasized that Ethiopia has no legal right to establish a naval base in Somalia, a point of contention in the region.
Furthermore, Moalim reported the seizure of three illegal weapons shipments originating from Ethiopia, further intensifying the diplomatic tension between the two neighboring countries.
This escalating dispute reflects broader regional concerns, particularly over territorial integrity and sovereignty, with Somalia pushing back against what it perceives as external interference.
