Ethiopian and Somali Representatives Discuss Bilateral Relations

Representatives from Ethiopia and Somalia held a meeting on January 29 to discuss several issues affecting their two nations.

Demeke Mekonnen, Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, led the delegation from his side.

Mekonnen received Mohamed Abdirizak, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at his office in Addis Ababa.

During their meeting, they discussed bilateral relations.

Demeke briefed Abdirizak on the current happenings in Ethiopia.

His Somali counterpart talked to him about the country’s preparations for parliamentary and presidential elections, which are due soon.

Demeke assured Abdirizak that the Ethiopian government was committed to strengthening its diplomatic and bilateral ties with Somalia.

On his part, Abdirizak expressed gratitude at the important role Ethiopia has played to stabilize Somalia.
