Ethiopian Diplomat Found Murdered in Las Anod After Abduction

Farah Aideed Jama, a security expert and official attached to the Ethiopian Consulate in Garowe, Puntland, was abducted from his home in Las Anod late Saturday night.

His body was discovered Sunday in the Goojacade Well Valley with evident signs of torture—including gunshot wounds—and his mobile phone missing, according to local media reports.

Jama was tasked with monitoring Ethiopian travelers in the region, a sensitive position given ongoing tensions.

The condition of his body suggests an execution-style murder, with reports indicating bullets were placed in his mouth—a possible symbolic act.

Authorities in SSC-Khaatumo, the regional administration controlling Las Anod, have not yet commented on the case or disclosed potential suspects.

The killing raises concerns over escalating violence in the Sool region, where disputes between Somaliland, Puntland, and local clans frequently turn deadly. Ethiopia maintains a diplomatic presence in Puntland, but its officials have faced threats in the past.
