Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Mohamed Fiqi, has confirmed that the Ethiopian Embassy will remain in Villa Somalia despite ongoing diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
These tensions have heightened recently due to Ethiopia’s unilateral decisions, including signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Somaliland, which Somalia regards as a violation of its sovereignty.
Somalia has strongly opposed this move, with FM Fiqi emphasizing that actions threatening Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity are unacceptable.
Despite these strains, Somalia’s decision to allow the Ethiopian Embassy to continue operating within Villa Somalia, the seat of the Somali presidency and government, indicates a level of diplomatic restraint.
This could reflect Somalia’s desire to maintain a channel of dialogue with Ethiopia amid broader regional stability concerns.
