Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed defended the recent agreement that the country signed with Somaliland earlier this year.
The Prime Minister defended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) while addressing the 19th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The summit, which took place on Friday in Kampala, saw the Ethiopian Prime Minister in the same venue with Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud since signing the deal with Somaliland.
In his speech, President Mohamud said that landlocked countries face insurmountable challenges in their quest to address the needs of their people regarding livelihoods and development.
He added that Ethiopia signed the deal with Somaliland with this in mind.
Nevertheless, the Prime Minister added that Ethiopia would continue seeking “a peaceful, mutually beneficial, and negotiated solution” to such challenges.
