On Wednesday, an Ethiopian delegation arrived at Hargeisa in Somaliland for talks with local officials.
Ahmed Shide, who is Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, led the high-powered delegation in the official tour of Somaliland.
The visit comes a few days after Egypt confirmed plans to set up a military base in the East African nation.
Relations between Egypt and Ethiopia have soured in the recent past after the latter announced plans to set up a dam along Blue Nile.
Egpyt believes that Ethiopia’s plans on Blue Nile is a threat to its economic prosperity since its people depends on River Nile for their livelihoods.
Last week, a delegation from Egypt visited Hargeisa for three days. In that time, they held meetings with President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland.
The move by Egypt to set up a military base in Somaliland has not gone down well with the administration of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.
Bashe Omar, the Representative of Somaliland to Kenya, confirmed the visit by the delegation from Addis Ababa. He said they are also scheduled to meet President Bihi.
