Ethiopia’s Somali Region Endorses Controversial Agreement with Somaliland

The Somali Region of Ethiopia has endorsed the controversial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Somaliland on January 1, 2024.

President Mustafa Mohamed Omer of the Somali Region threw his weight behind the controversial agreement that has created a diplomatic row between Ethiopia and Somalia in the last two weeks.

On Saturday, President Omer stated that the MoU was full of numerous benefits.

First, he said that the deal would foster sustainable development while enhancing good relations among neighboring nations.

President Omer’s comments are unlikely to earn any praise in Somalia.
