The President of Somali State in Ethiopia visited the oil and gas exploration field in Shilaabo on October 15.
During the visit, President Mustafa Muhummed Omer was in the company of Samuel Hurkato, Ethiopia’s Minister of Mines and Petroleum.
Both leaders agreed that Somali workers at the site were quite few in number.
Consequently, they stressed the need of encouraging more Somalis to acquire the training and skills that would make them employable at the site.
President Omer noted that 95 percent of the workers at the site were from highland.
He noted that the presence of only a few Somali workers was evidence of unequal recruitment, which he purposed to change.
