EU Ambassador to Somalia Welcomes the Reopening of Mogadishu Stadium

Nicolas Berlanga, EU’s Ambassador to Somalia, has welcomed the reopening of Mogadishu Stadium after years of renovation.

Ambassador Berlanga tweeted his pleasure at the reopening of the only national stadium in the Horn of Africa nation.

He also mentioned the immense contributions made by the European Union, Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Norway, and several private firms to rebuild the facility.

Reports indicate that the EU contributed more than €1.3 million to renovate the stadium, which had been in a deplorable state since the Civil War of the 1990s.

Berlanga said, “We now look forward to the next international football match at Mogadishu Stadium.”

During the renovations, the entire football stadium got a huge facelift.

The facility now boasts of a VIP section, rehabilitated parking lot, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and changing rooms.

A second phase of the reconstruction will focus more on rebuilding a hotel and putting up various other sports courts.
