Nicolas Berlanga, who is EU’s Ambassador to Somalia, has added his voice to the calls for Members of Parliament (MPs) to approve the increase of women and minority quota in parliament.
Nagaad Women Network, though Chairperson Ms. Ismahan Abdisalaan Hassan, has joined Ambassador Berlanga in making this call. She urged the honorable members of the House of Representatives to approve the new quota for women and representatives of minority groups.
Ms. Hassan said women in Somaliland would never support any political party or process that discriminates against them. She asked parliamentarians to ensure that the new quota becomes law before the country goes into elections.
On his part, Berlanga asserted that the EU is not being political. He said that EU is only interested in the social stability of Somaliland; hence its support for increasing women and minority representation in political circles.
