EU, AU, and IGAD Hail Agreement between Somalia and Ethiopia

The Ankara Agreement between Somalia and Ethiopia marks a significant diplomatic breakthrough, resolving 11 months of political tensions and severed ties.

The European Union (EU), African Union (AU), and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have collectively welcomed the agreement, highlighting its potential to restore stability and foster cooperation between the two nations.

This development is expected to enhance regional integration and mutual interests, particularly in trade, security, and shared infrastructure projects, benefiting the Horn of Africa’s overall stability.

The international community’s support underscores the importance of sustained dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts in the region.

The agreement between the two nations, which was signed on Wednesday in Turkey through President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s mediation, ends year-long diplomatic tensions.
