Mogadishu, Somalia — The newly appointed European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, held her first official meeting in Mogadishu with the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the EU and Somalia.
During the talks, Amb. Di Mauro reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to deepening relations with Somalia in line with the EU-Somalia Joint Operational Roadmap. The framework prioritizes inclusive politics, democratization, governance reforms, and the consolidation of peace and stability.
Speaker Madobe welcomed the Ambassador and emphasized the importance of the EU’s continued support at a time when Somalia is undertaking critical political and institutional reforms. He highlighted the role of international partners in advancing democratization and ensuring that the country remains on course toward building a strong federal system.
Amb. Di Mauro underscored the EU’s readiness to work closely with Somalia’s legislative institutions and other stakeholders to promote inclusivity, transparency, and accountability. She noted that the EU sees Somalia’s progress in political and security stabilization as essential for long-term partnership and sustainable development.
The EU remains one of Somalia’s largest development partners, supporting programs ranging from governance reforms and democratic transition to humanitarian aid and resilience-building. This meeting marks an important step in reinforcing collaboration as Somalia advances toward political stability and a more inclusive democratic future.
