The European Union has extended its three key security and defense missions in Somalia until February 28, 2027, according to an announcement published today.
First, the Organization extended the lifespan of the EU Naval Force Operation ATALANTA, which is focused on combating piracy, protecting vulnerable vessels, and maintaining maritime security in the Western Indian Ocean.
It also extended the mission for the EU Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia), which is dedicated to strengthening the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) through specialized military training and capacity-building to enhance their operational effectiveness.
Third, the EU Capacity Building Mission in Somalia (EUCAP Somalia) whose aim is to support Somali maritime law enforcement agencies and bolster the country’s capacity to ensure maritime security, rule of law, and good governance, for the next three years.
This extension highlights the EU’s continued commitment to enhancing security, stability, and governance in Somalia and the wider region.
