Somalia Receives $7 Million EU Boost for Aid and Rights Programs

Mogadishu, Somalia – The European Union has committed over $7 million in fresh assistance for Somalia to bolster humanitarian relief and enhance human rights safeguards, a contribution that authorities say will advance the nation’s broader stability initiatives.

EU Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro explained that the funding aims to empower Somali civil society organizations in fostering peace, enhancing livelihoods, and expanding rights protections amid escalating humanitarian challenges triggered by drought.

This announcement comes after recent dialogues between Somali leadership and international counterparts, during which participants agreed to amplify collaborative efforts targeting communities most severely affected by the ongoing crisis.

Somalia’s federal administration and donor partners have pledged a unified strategy focused on alleviating immediate hardships while developing sustainable long-term recovery mechanisms.

European representatives indicated that the new assistance serves both immediate drought response objectives and capacity-building for Somalia’s resilience against future crises, demonstrating the EU’s commitment to sustainable development and rights-based governance.
