EU, Somalia Deepen Digital Cooperation

Mogadishu, Somalia – The European Union and Somalia have reaffirmed their partnership in advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.

On Sunday in Mogadishu, EU Ambassador to Somalia, Francesca Di Mauro, met with the Minister for Communication and Technology, Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali Somali, to review progress in the sector and explore new areas of collaboration.

According to an official statement, discussions focused on the ministry’s recent achievements in digital development and Somalia’s long-term vision for a connected, technology-driven economy.

The talks also highlighted the EU’s continued backing through the Global Gateway initiative, which supports infrastructure upgrades and expanded connectivity across Somalia. Amb. Di Mauro commended the government’s efforts to modernize digital systems and improve access to communication services.

Somali welcomed the EU’s role as a strategic partner and stressed the importance of sustained investment in digital infrastructure to drive economic growth, service delivery, and innovation. Both sides underscored the need to maintain momentum as Somalia rolls out reforms and seeks to bridge the digital divide nationwide.
