Ex-Managing Director of Dahabshil Could be Somalia’s New Deputy Prime Minister

A former Managing Director of the Dahabshil Group could become Somalia’s new Deputy Prime Minister.

Reports from Mogadishu indicate that Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre could appoint Hassan Abdi Awad as his new deputy.

Awad was once in charge of Dahabshil Group’s operations in South and Central Somalia.

He resigned from his position within Dahabshil Group earlier this week.

In his place, Dahabshil Group appointed Omar Hassan Yoola as the new Managing Director in charge of the company’s operations in South and Central Somalia.

Prime Minister Barre is likely to name his cabinet by next week.

Mahdi Mohamed Guled Khadir, the current Deputy Prime Minister, has been lobbying hard to be retained but that’s unlikely to happen.
