A former minister in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has accused President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of pushing the people of Hiiraan to the wall.
Abdullahi Godah Barre, the immediate former Minister of Education, has faulted Farmaajo’s frustration of the people of Hiiraan.
He said that the President is guilty of policies designed to drive the residents of Hiiraan region towards armed struggle.
“President Farmaajo is hell-bent on suppressing the rights of the people of Hiiraan,” Barre warned.
He also mentioned that Farmaajo has been threatening Hiiraan with “military consequences.”
Barre made these comments from Istanbul where he traveled to for some personal business.
“The government’s decision to impose its own people into leadership positions in the region is forcing the locals to take up arms,” Barre stated.
He cited the recent election of Ali Guudlaawe as the new President of HirShabelle.
Prior to Guudlaawe’s election, his opponents cited his close ties to Mogadishu and specifically President Farmaajo as a reason for boycotting the polls.
Nevertheless, Guudlaawe emerged victorious and the region has not known peace since the elections with protests and violence rocking its main city.
