A former minister in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) supports the warning the United States issued to leaders derailing Somalia elections.
Abdi Aynte, a former Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, expressed his support for the US stance on January 12.
Aynte said that the US, as one of the largest international donors to Somalia, has every right to “decisively stand” with the people of Somalia in their democratic journey.
Moreover, Aynte mentioned that previous warnings by the US government have moderated the “reckless” behavior of many political actors in Somalia.
The US issued a warning on January 12 to anyone planning to spoil the ongoing parliamentary polls in Somalia.
Specifically, the US urged all political players to adhere to the deadline of February 25 that the National Consultative Council (NCC) gave for concluding parliamentary polls.
Those who prevent this from taking place would be liable to unspecified stern action from the US.
