A former head of the National Independent Elections Commission (NIEC) of Somalia will lead the electoral body of the regional state of Galmudug.
Halima Ismael, who headed NIEC until a year or two ago, has been appointed the new chairperson of the Galmudug polls body.
Her appointment was confirmed to the public on Sunday, December 11.
Ismael was to head NIEC as the East African nation planned to hold parliamentary and presidential elections.
However, stakeholders opted to give the responsibility to a new electoral body.
Since then, she has kept a low profile after Somalia concluded the elections.
She will now lead the electoral process in Galmudug as the region plans to hold statewide elections in the near future.
