Ex-President Sheikh Sharif has accused the government of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of supporting Al-Shabaab.
According to Sharif, Al-Shabaab feel emboldened to operate in Mogadishu because of the empowering received from Farmaajo’s administration.
Sharif gave the example of the tax collection that members of the Al-Qaeda linked group blatantly carry out at Mogadishu’s seaport.
Further, he stated that the extremists would not be carrying out such activities openly without the support of the government.
Sharif said that security officers who want to stop Al-Shabaab’s activities at the seaport feel powerless to do anything.
The former president made these accusations while addressing the public in his office on Friday.
