Ex-President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has welcomed the ongoing high-level discussions at Villa Somalia on the country’s new electoral model and other issues of national importance.
Farmaajo spoke on Wednesday at the National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting that kicked off under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
However, Farmaajo did not attend the meeting.
Former Presidents, Prime Ministers, Speakers, and cabinet ministers all attended the meeting, which has been called “historic.”
Participants at the meeting will discuss the proposed election model.
They will also talk about universal suffrage, the model that Somalia is scheduled to embrace and use for the 2026 elections.
Other issues they will discuss include security and the economy among others.
