Ex-President Mohamud Wins Second Round of Somalia’s Presidential Elections

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won the second round of Somalia’s presidential elections.

The elections took place at the Afisyoni Tent in Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on Sunday, May 15.

Mohamud finished first in the second round with 110 votes.

Incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo was second with 83 votes ahead of Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni who had 68 votes.

Ex-Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire was fourth with 63 votes.

Mohamud, Farmaajo, Deni, and Khaire were the top four candidates after the first round of voting.

They proceeded to the second round as no candidate garnered the required 220 votes.

Now, the top two candidates move into the third round of voting.

Puntland’s President Deni threw his weight behind ex-President Mohamud at the end of the second round.
