Ex-President Says More Somalis Turning to Al-Shabaab Courts for Justice

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud claims that more Somalis are turning to Al-Shabaab courts for justice.

He said this during a Q&A session held on the sides of the ongoing consultative meeting organized by opposition presidential candidates in Mogadishu.

Since Friday, November 20, presidential candidates from the opposition have been meeting in Mogadishu to find solutions to their differences and speak with one voice.

Mohamud accused the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) of abandoning its responsibility of providing justice for all.

The failure by FGS has pushed more Somalis to militant-run courts around the country.

Furthermore, he accuses the government of abandoning some of the measures he instituted together with past regimes to make justice accessible for all.

He gave the example of an Al-Shaaab court in Torotorow, which has witnessed a surge in traffic from traders, civilians, and government officers seeking justice.
