Ex-Prime Minister Urges Somalia Not to Surrender Sovereignty

A former Prime Minister of Somalia has called upon the government not to relent in protecting the country’s sovereignty.

Ex-Prime Minister Omar Sharmarke issued this call on Monday.

Sharmarke spoke while referring to Somalia’s ongoing diplomatic tiff with Ethiopia, which signed a deal that compromises its sovereignty with Somaliland.

The Ethiopia-Somaliland deal was signed on January 1, 2024.

Sharmarke encouraged President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to insist on this during the upcoming Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) extraordinary summit.

IGAD will hold the summit on January 18 to discuss the diplomatic row between Ethiopia and Somalia.
