Ex-Prime Minister’s Family Demands Probe over His Death

The family of a former Prime Minister of Somalia has demanded thorough investigations to determine the cause of his sudden death.

Professor Ali Khalif Galaydh, who served as Somalia’s Prime Minister from October 8, 2000 to October 28, 2001 died this week in Jigjiga, the capital of Somali region in Ethiopia.

Immediately after his death was confirmed, Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) raised suspicion over the manner in which he had died.

According to a senior official of ONLF, Professor Galaydh’s death was “suspicious.” The unnamed official also reiterated his belief that Galaydh had been “poisoned.”

Those remarks forced authorities in Jigjiga to order an autopsy.

Thereafter, the results of the autopsy revealed that Professor Galaydh had succumbed to complications arising from COVID-19.

However, his family has now come out to demand a thorough probe to determine the exact cause of the deceased’s sudden demise.
