Ex-Puntland Minister Warns Deni of Consequences of Messing with Elections

A former minister in Puntland regional state has warned of the consequences of meddling with the upcoming elections.

Hassan Shire Abgaal, a former Minister of Finance, issued the warning to President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland.

Abgaal told Deni that he would have blood on his hands in case he postpones presidential polls that are due for 2024.

Agbaal issued this warning on Friday during a press conference that he held in Garowe.

Puntland is scheduled to hold presidential elections on January 8, 2024.

However, there are fears that Deni could move this date. Abgaal warned that Deni has no right to do that without changing the regional state’s constitution.

The ex-finance minister stated his opposition to attempts to prolong Deni’s stay in office or meddle with the constitution.
