Former Somali army officer Ahmed Ali Shegow, who was serving a 10-year sentence handed down by a military court in 2023, passed away on Monday at a hospital where he had been receiving treatment, local journalists report.
Shegow was arrested in August 2023 following a deadly clash between his guards and police, which resulted in the deaths of several officers.
His family expressed sorrow and outrage over his death, alleging that he had been denied adequate medical care while in custody.
