Ex-Somali President Warns of Negative Impact of Electoral Malpractices

A former President of Somalia has warned of the negative impact of electoral malpractices.

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke of the negative effects of electoral malpractices on the continent on January 27.

Specifically, he zeroed in on the tendency by incumbents on the African continent to refuse to hand over power once their term in office ends.

He mentioned the three recent coups on the continent.

The latest one took place in Burkina Faso just last weekend.

Ex-President Mohamud has thrown his hat into the race to be Somalia’s new leader in the coming presidential elections.

Mohamud also provided examples from Somalia.

According to him, Somalia has always struggled with inter-clan conflicts, Al-Shabaab menace, and drought.

However, incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo’s attempt to extend his stay in office has not gone down well with Mohamud and other opposition leaders.

“Farmaajo has already illegally extended his stay in office by two years,” Mohamud said.
