Dr. C. Kani Torun, a former Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, has urged President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to demonstrate maturity in handling the electoral impasse.
Dr. Torun was responding to a report by Goobjoog News that security forces sealed off major roads in Mogadishu in anticipation of an impending protest.
This week, an avalanche of protests by Somalis demanding timely, free, and fair elections has rocked the nation’s capital.
The ex-Ambassador encouraged Farmaajo to follow the example set by his predecessors.
Specifically, he mentioned ex-President Sheikh Sharif and ex-President Hassan Sheikh.
According to Dr. Torun, Sharif and Sheikh demonstrated unmatched maturity in 2012 and 2016 respectively during preparations for presidential elections.
Furthermore, he urged Farmaajo to offer an example to other leaders by seeking compromise and not confrontation.
