The exiled leader of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) has finally returned to Mogadishu, Somalia.
Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble welcomed Abdikarim Muse Qalbi Dhagah, the ONLF leader on Thursday, May 12.
Roble and Dhagah met at the Office of the Prime Minister in Somalia’s capital.
The Prime Minister took the opportunity to apologize to Dhagah for the treatment he received at the hands of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Somali government extradited Dhagah to Ethiopia on August 28, 2018.
Four years and eight months later, Dhagah was able to return to his motherland.
Prime Minister Roble also handed the Somali flag to Dhagah as a symbol of his acceptance back to the country of his birth.
His return follows the decision by the Somali cabinet in January 2022 to revoke a decision by the government to categorize ONLF as a “terrorist organization.”
