Somalia’s National Intelligence Security Agency (NISA) has appointed Yasin Abdullahi Farey the new spy chief for the Mogadishu station.
Prior to his appointment, Farey was Fahad Yasin’s Head of Security. Fahad heads NISA. Yasin replaces Isse Mohamed Isse, who has been the acting chief spy since March 1, 2020.
Fahad had sacked Ibrahim Moalim Abdullahi before appointing Isse in his place. However, NISA is yet to give reasons behind Fahad’s decision to sack Abdullahi.
As part of his new duties, Farey will be responsible for keeping Mogadishu safe and secure from Al-Shabaab militants who have been returning to the city in the recent past.
Currently, Mogadishu enjoys relative peace and safety. Nevertheless, Al-Shabaab has conducted several attacks in the city.
Al-Shabaab once controlled Mogadishu before losing their grip in the city in 2011. However, reports show they now control many businesses in the city from which they collect taxes.
