Somalia’s Family Ministry Engages UN Women on Gender Equality Efforts

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development convened a senior-level meeting in Mogadishu with UN Women officials, renewing their joint dedication to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality throughout Somalia.

The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, joined by Director General Mohamed Bashir Omar, led the Somali side. Ms. Rukia Mohamed, Head of Programmes, headed the UN Women delegation.

Talks focused on intensifying collaboration to expand current and new gender initiatives, such as those enhancing women’s involvement, safeguards, and economic empowerment. Both parties examined fresh partnership opportunities aligned with national objectives and the ministry’s reform plans.

Al-Makhzoumi thanked UN Women for ongoing assistance, emphasizing the critical role of their technical and strategic support in the ministry’s achievements. The UN Women team praised the ministry’s swift progress and pledged to strengthen ties.

This session aligns with the ministry’s overarching strategy to expedite outcomes through robust partnerships with local and global stakeholders, promoting a unified and effective drive for women’s empowerment and gender equality in Somalia.
