The family of a Somali-Canadian lawyer who was found dead in his house has now said that he was killed.
Gamal Ahmed Jimale, the lawyer, was found dead in his house in Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland in mid-July this year.
Initially, Somaliland police claimed that he committed suicide.
He was discovered dead in the bedroom of his house in Hargeisa on July 16.
Jimale is a Somali-Canadian. He graduated as a lawyer from a Canadian university before practicing in Massachusetts.
His housemaid found him in his bedroom. According to the housemaid, Jimale lay next to a shotgun.
Investigative arms of the government then determined suicide as the cause of his death.
However, his close relatives now dispute the government’s findings. According to his cousin Omar Kahin, Jimale was killed because of an ongoing land case.
Kahin states that Jimale traveled back to Hargeisa to reclaim a piece of land that belonged to Ahmed Mohamed Gulaid Jimale, his father.
