On Tuesday, the family of the late General Sheegow Ahmed Ali urged the Somali government to release his body to them rather than interring him at the Armed Forces Hospital in Mogadishu.
Abdishakur Shaashaa, the Deputy Information Minister of HirShabelle state and a relative of the deceased, stated that General Sheegow, whom he referred to as a “political prisoner,” succumbed to hepatitis.
He criticized the government for not providing adequate medical care during General Sheegow’s incarceration.
The late Gen. Sheegow died over the weekend at a Mogadishu hospital where he had been receiving medical attention. He fell sick while serving a 10-year prison sentence.
