FAO Country Director Visits Desert Locust Control Center in Puntland

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Director for Somalia visited the Desert Locust Control Center in Puntland.

Etienne Peterschmitt, the FAO Country Director, visited the center on Tuesday, July 12.

The center is in Qardho, a town in the regional state of Puntland.

Peterschmitt has been visiting various areas in the East African nation to evaluate the humanitarian situation and the accruing needs.

The Desert Locust Control Center is crucial for monitoring desert locusts, which invaded Somalia around two years ago.

FAO and other international bodies have labeled the desert locust infestation over.

Currently, the center has been disposing of the insect growth regulator drums that it used to control the desert locusts when the infestation was at its highest.
