FAO Head of Programme Discusses Locust Invasion with Puntland’s Agriculture Ministry

Ezana Kassa, the Head of Programme at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), discussed desert locust invasion with a Puntland regional state ministry.

Kassa met with officials from Puntland’s Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Climate Change.

The FAO official’s meeting with the agriculture ministry officials took place on December 1.

During the discussions, Kassa brought the ministry officials up to date with the activities that FAO has planned to eradicate the locust problem.

Aerial and ground operations have not stopped in northeast Somalia.

In November 2021, FAO noticed the formation of several hopper bands in the region.

FAO further expects to see tiny immature swarms forming from the second week of December 2021.

Afterward, the swarms would then migrate to other regions, specifically southern Somalia and southern Ethiopia.
