FAO Launches Anticipatory Action to Help Vulnerable Somalis to Handle El-Nino Better

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched an anticipatory action jointly with the United Kingdom to help vulnerable Somalis to handle the effects of El Nino better.

FAO and the UK Embassy in Mogadishu announced the commencement of the anticipatory action on August 16.

The global body stated that there is a 90 percent chance of El Nino occurring in Somalia.

It added that El Nino would continue all through to the end of the year.

According to FAO, close to 1.2 million Somalis live in areas that are likely to feel the impact of El Nino in different parts of the country.

FAO and UK launched a range of Anticipatory Action and Preparedness Initiatives that could cost upwards of $3.8 million.
