The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative to Somalia has warned of an “unfolding tragedy” in rural communities.
Etienne Peterschmitt, the FAO Representative to Somalia, said this after receiving reports of tragic incidences from rural parts of the country.
He said that the unfolding tragedy is the result of the worsening drought and the subsequent humanitarian crisis that it has created.
Consequently, he announced that FAO Somalia continues to scale up famine prevention interventions in rural communities.
Peterschmitt issued a call to the international community to increase their support for Somalia to protect lives and livelihoods.
