FAO Says 2.1 Million People in Somalia at Risk of Acute Hunger

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced that close to 2.1 million people in Somalia are at risk of acute hunger.

FAO made this announcement on Thursday, October 15.

The global organization stated that the huge numbers are because of the reduction in humanitarian assistance from Somalia’s international partners.

Further, FAO’s Office in Somalia indicated that the acute hunger is likely to take place between now and December 2020.

Consequently, it has called for urgent interventions to prevent what could be a humanitarian crisis of biblical proportions.

Several factors have combined to worsen the situation.

These include the triple threats of COVID-19 pandemic, desert locust invasion, and incessant flooding. Insecurity has also made it difficult for farmers to excel at what they do.
