FAO Says that over 284,390 People in Somaliland Need Urgent Humanitarian Assistance

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says that the number of people who need urgent humanitarian assistance in Somaliland has surpassed 284,390.

FAO said this in its latest report on the increasingly worrying situation in the region.

In the report, FAO has initiated a scaling up of its emergency activities as a means of responding to Somaliland’s drought emergency.

FAO noted the increase in the population that requires urgent humanitarian aid between June and September of last year.

Etienne Peterschmitt, the FAO Representative to Somalia, added that the impending famine is a huge risk to the livelihood of rural communities in the nation.

The organization stated that agriculture must be at the frontline of all humanitarian responses.
