FAO to Launch Radio Programs to Train Farmers in Somalia

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced plans to launch radio programs to support farmers in Somalia.

FAO announced these plans on Wednesday September 1.

In its press release, the global organization stated that it would be airing over 30 programs on radio that cover various topics.

Some of the topics include agricultural practices, fishery, nutrition, and livestock.

FAO said that the programs are critical for training farmers in the face of the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic pose in the sector.

It further stated that the programs are designed for the most vulnerable farmers in the country.

The organization has been providing cash and livelihood support to this caliber of farmers to cushion them against the effects of the pandemic.

Ezana Kassa, FAO’s Coordinator of Emergency Program in Somalia, said, “We desire to provide farmers with accurate and reliable information amid the multiple crises they face.”

Kassa mentioned that the radio programs are designed to improve food security in the East African country too.
