Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that locusts are now laying fresh eggs in Central Somalia.
FAO made the announcement on Monday, October 19.
The global organization indicated that the problem is not limited to Central Somalia alone but affects other countries in the Horn of Africa region too.
Ethiopia, Kenya, Eritrea, and Sudan are among the worst affected countries.
Other countries outside Africa but bordering the Horn of Africa region are also susceptible to a fresh wave of locust invasion. These include Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
In Somalia, FAO has established that the regions likely to encounter a large swarm of locusts include Hargeisa and Boroma.
However, it also warned that other areas are not safe.
A swarm of mature adult locusts is likely to invade Mudug and Galmudug. FAO warns that the locusts would be moving from the northeast to the south.
