Farmaajo Calls Uhuru Kenyatta over the Bardale Plane Crash

Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo called Kenya’s President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta yesterday to talk about Monday’s Bardale plane crash.

Reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mogadishu say that Farmaajo termed the incident “unfortunate.”

Kenya had called the incident, which killed six individuals, “suspicious” and added that the crash occurred under “unclear circumstances.”

Three Kenyan nationals were among the dead.

Nairobi had demanded “in-depth explanations” around the circumstances that led to the plane crash.

Meanwhile, reports emerged indicating that Ethiopian troops in the region shot it down with Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG).

Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Raychelle Omamo, had warned Kenyan and humanitarian aircraft flying in the region to take “extra precautions” in the wake of the deadly incident.

Farmaajo’s rare phone call with Uhuru happened a few hours after Kenya had expressed its reservations with the crash.
