Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has sent congratulatory message to President-Elect Joe Biden for winning the United States presidential elections.
Joe Biden was declared the winner on Saturday, November 7.
While congratulating Biden and his Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, Farmaajo also expressed hope at continued “close cooperation and partnership” between Somalia and the US.
President Farmaajo also wished Biden and Harris “success in their future endeavors.”
The United States has been one of Somalia’s staunchest allies on the international scene and domestically too.
It operates the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), which works closely with the Somali National Army (SNA) and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to maintain security in Somalia.
Farmaajo joins a bevy of international leaders who have been congratulating Biden and Harris for defeating outgoing President Donald Trump, who only served a single term of four years.
Biden defeated Trump on the electoral colleges and popular votes.
He also set a record for the highest number of popular votes cast for a presidential candidate after garnering more than 75 million.
Biden was declared the President-Elect after garnering 290 electoral votes, which is more than the 270 needed to win the seat.
