President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has told Members of Parliament (MPs) that their terms would only expire when the country holds parliamentary elections.
Farmaajo offered this assurance to legislators on February 8.
Abdirashid M. Hashi, Director of Communications in the Office of the Presidency, published President Farmaajo’s assurance to the lawmakers on Monday.
MPs have remained in office despite their terms expiring in December 2020.
Since then, the country has been unable to hold parliamentary elections, which were postponed to January 2021 before being cancelled again.
The President urged them to remain loyal only to the people of Somalia rather than to international governments.
