President Mohamed Abdillahi Farmaajo of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has invited the Presidents of all Federal Member States (FMS) to a security meeting.
Details on the National Security Meeting remain sketchy but the meeting is scheduled to take place soon in Mogadishu.
Among the issues to be discussed are the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in 2020 followed by the presidential polls scheduled for 2021.
President Farmaajo’s administration has been under heavy criticism for failure to provide adequate leadership on the polls, which should be based on the universal vote.
Opposition parties in the country have consistently accused Farmaajo of planning to extend his term beyond this year on the pretext of the difficulties presented by COVID-19.
The meeting would most likely take place when President Farmaajo returns from his official visit to Djibouti, which started today.
