President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has overruled the attempts by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to send the Navy chief packing.
On December 23, Prime Minister Roble announced that Abdihamid Dirir, the Navy Chief, had been relieved of his duties.
However, reports from Villa Somalia indicated that Farmaajo overruled Roble and asked Dirir to remain in office.
Technically, security matters fall under the Office of the Prime Minister.
The act by Farmaajo is likely to create a fresh round of squabbles with Roble.
Sources believe that the Prime Minister’s attempts to sack Dirir stemmed from the reports that Roble wanted to grab and use public land for private purposes.
