Farmaajo Sacks Top Army Commander After Al-Shabaab Attacks SNA Base

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has sacked a Deputy Commander of Somalia National Army. The sack notice came after Al-Shabaab raided a military base at El-Salini.

Somalia’s President relieved Brig. Gen. Mohamed Ali Barise of his duties when the raid by the extremist group led to the death of 24 SNA soldiers.

Farmaajo’s decision could create excitement within the military. It is the highest sacking of an SNA official the President has made.

Somalia has not enjoyed much peace for over two decades. In that time, it struggled to create a formidable army that can counter terrorism and smuggling within its borders.
