President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia has promised to host a National Security Meeting with regional leaders in July.
According to a press statement released by the Office of the President today, President Farmaajo’s meeting with regional leaders is likely to take place from July 5-8, 2020.
The leaders are expected to discuss wide-ranging issues affecting the country and each specific region.
Some of the issues on the agenda include the upcoming elections and security. The leaders are also likely to talk about the war against Al-Shabaab.
The statement from the Office of the President indicates that the leaders would also talk about the economy, constitution review, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many regional leaders wanted the meeting to take place before National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) addresses parliament.
In their view, NIEC should only address parliament after considering their views.
