President Mohamed Farmaajo’s ongoing meeting in Dhusamareb with leaders of the Federal Member States (FMS) has been praised by the United Nations.
James Swan, the UN Ambassador to Somalia, hailed the meeting calling it timely and critical for the future of Somalia.
Farmaajo arrived in the administrative capital of Galmudug state on Saturday following heavy pressure from several leaders of opposition parties in the country.
He arrived in Dhusamareb a week after the talks had started. Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire arrived a few days before Farmaajo.
Nevertheless, his presence at the talks has reassured Somalis and international partners of the government’s commitment to holding elections on time.
Farmaajo is in Dhusamareb with leaders such as President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland, President Ahmed Madobe of Jubbaland, and President Ahmed Kariye Qoorqoor of Galmudug.
Other leaders present at the talks include President Abdulaziz Lafta-Gareen of Southwest state and President Mohamed Abdi Ware of HirShabelle.
On Monday, the UN tweeted its “delight” at the ongoing talks.
It also urged the participants to exercise and display constructive compromise to find solutions for obstacles that could hinder the talks.
